One of the private radio stations in Enugu; Family Love FM has been destroyed by lightning leaving one of their staff injured.
JOURNALIST101 learnt that the incident happened on Saturday during the rain in the evening. The staff on air (names withheld) was injured and was rushed to the hospital.
The radio station which broadcasts on 99.9 Frequency Modulation (FM) is located on top Ngwo hill, Enugu North Local government area.
Both the transmission and broadcasting office of the station is located in the same building and this an expert said could have been the cause of the lightning.
“When you have both the transmission and broadcast station in the same place, its not healthy because a direct hit on an FM antenna or transmission line often does physical damage. No matter the earthing done in the environment, these two offices shouldn’t exist in the same place because of incidents like this.
“Also, the vibration and emissions of the transmission is another health challenge,” Engr. Goddy Okafor who spoke with our correspondent said.
A source at the station said though the level of the damage isn’t yet ascertained, this isn’t the first time nor the second they’re having this kind of experience and called on their management to quickly consider moving their broadcast station to Enugu metropolis.
