Fidelity Advert
Kwankwaso and Wike

The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso has joined an array of political heavyweights paying private visits to Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike.

Kwankwaso, who led a delegation of his party leaders and friends, was said to have held crucial discussions with Wike behind closed doors.

Kwankwaso, after the meeting which had a former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, in attendance, posed for photographs and left in the evening without disclosing the reason for his visit.

It was, however learnt that the former Kano Governor in the meeting, which held on Friday at the Governor’s Port Harcourt country home, sought Wike’s support for his presidential ambition.

Kwankwaso came a few days after the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi paid a similar private visit to Wike.

On Thursday, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, and the PDP leadership in the Senate held separate private meetings with Wike.

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, led the Senate Minority Whip, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Sen Shuaibu Lau, and Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Danjuma La’ah and Senator Barry Mpigi to visit Wike.

Wike has been receiving PDP stalwarts and other top politicians following the controversies that led to his rejection as a running mate to the party’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Though Wike had vowed to remain in PDP, his silence after losing the power play that produced Atiku and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa had become a source of concern to the PDP leadership.

It was gathered that the party and Atiku were apprehensive that Wike might not be committed to their presidential election in 2023.
