Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu

Some aggrieved staff of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu, have distanced themselves from the Vote of confidence passed on their Medical Director, Prof. Monday Igwe, describing same as “image laundry” aimed at distracting the public from the realities on ground.

On 28th July, 2022, Joint Health Union (JOHESU), Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu chapter, passed a vote on their Medical Director.

Some of the staff that spoke to journalists on Friday, said they’re not surprised that Prof. Igwe rather than tackle the issues in the hospital bothering on nepotism, Corruption and unprofessional conduct, prefers “purchased vote of confidence.”

The staff said they know so many of the persons in that gathering that aren’t staff of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu and one of the striking names is one Eunice Eze, a Deputy director nursing at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH)

“Some of the faces at the Congress were rented to clap and cheer Prof. Monday Igwe once his name is mentioned for unfounded or unverifiable claims.”

“We asked some of the Journalist that covered the Congress to time to see the faces of those cheering the fake vote of confidence; they will discover a lot of rented crowd impersonating staff of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital just to dish out vote of confidence”.

They narrated how five of their colleagues spent about 13 years in one position, and Dr. Monday Igwe promoted four out of the five staff without going for promotion exercise only to humiliate and punish the remaining one.”

They further alleged that “the four nurses promoted have no NYSC exemption letter nor participated in a known Promotion interview and yet, they were promoted without the necessary requirements after the MD was financially induced all in a bid to punish one of us Prof. Igwe perceives as a deviant.

“They wondered why the Labor leaders would claim that the once elusive cordial working and peaceful environment in the hospital has been restored under Professor Igwe’s administration” when Doctor Monday has not provided answers to the corruption allegations levelled against him by the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Enugu.

“One can not mistake silence as true peace or believe there could be peace in the absence of justice and fairness.

“When the rented Labor leaders claimed that Professor Igwe has worked very hard to reposition the hospital on the path of peace and progress; we wonder if planting his wife in the school to the detriment of those who worked hard for years to bring the school to limelight as well as deliberate intimidation of workers are part of working hard for peace.

“Can a man who denied staff of their entitlement and deliberately looking for a way to sack some of the staff members who have not offended him be described as someone looking for peace or working for peace.

“While we will not border ourselves to the claims of the fake Labor Leaders in Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, we can categorically state that Dr. Monday Igwe is the architect of the renewed internal Crisis in the hospital. Those people can not deny receiving something in return for the Vote of thanks.

The aggrieved Staff said that all they seek is a situation the MD will allow them do their jobs as bona-fide staff of the institute without witch hunt and deliberate creation of tension where there is none.

“This is a man that’s owing the NYSC staff 10 months salary of one thousand naira a month. He sacked a level three staff that earns less than forty thousand naira a month with six children without due process while leaving those that are worse because they are his people. Most staff cannot talk for fear of victimisation and bullying.

“He has applied for consideration of second tenure while depriving others of their positions because of his wife and other interests.

“We call the Minister to hear the voice of the oppressed in the hospital because he uses divide and rule. Marginalising those who are not from Ebonyi.
