A place meant for relaxation in Enugu State is fast becoming a source of sadness and pain following the reported cases of car theft in the popular Tiger Bar.

Located at the serene 30 Park avenue, GRA, Enugu, Tiger Bar became the darling of Ndi Enugu for selling drinks at Nigerian Breweries regulated prices as well as offering mouth-watering grilled fish and meat.

However, the Tiger Bar is fast becoming a source of tears for some of her customers that have been victims of both car theft and car vandalism. following the surge the spot is witnessing.

The car park provided by the owners of the spot is no longer enough as a result of the surge the relaxation centre is witnessing, forcing majority of their customers to park their vehicles by the roadside.

Speaking with our correspondent, the latest victim, Von Nwadukwe, narrated how he parked his vehicle in very close to the entrance of the Bar and it was stolen.

“I parked very close to their entrance just after the security barricade in the street. I went into the bar to relax for a while. I spent about an hour and came out to discover that my vehicle has been stolen. Another vehicle parked in the same spot.

“It was like a shock to me. I went to the security people there and told them what happened to me, they were acting as though it’s not a new thing. I asked for their head but they said he wasn’t on duty. I requested to see their manager. He came and screamed ‘na wa oh!’ and I asked me where I parked, I pointed the spot to him and he said, they don’t normally steal cars from that spot. I was infuriated by that statement and asked what he meant, he said the truth is that the steal cars here and he’s even considering changing his Camry car. I asked him if this is what he can tell a customer whose vehicle has just been stolen.

“To my chagrin, when I went to Abakiliki Road Police station to make formal complaint, they asked where the car was stolen and I said Tiger Bar, they all echoed, ‘again!’, one of the officers scolded me if I don’t know they steal cars there. He said my own car is the second car to be reported missing in the last 4 days and they have received over 10 reports in the past 2 months.”

JOURNALIST101 gathered that one of the staff of the Tiger Bar has been a victim of the car theft too. A source at the bar told our correspondent that boyfriend of one of the waiters that brought food for his girlfriend (waiter) couldn’t find his car after coming to deliver the food.

Another victim who spoke to our correspondent said his car was vandalised when he came out of the bar.

“I came out and found out that one of my door glasses has been broken. They opened the vehicle, took my charger, power bank and all the monies I had in the vehicle removed,” the victim who doesn’t want his name in print out of fear told our correspondent.

What we found more troublesome is that despite all these reports, there seems to be no effort by the management of the Tiger Bar to secure the cars of their customers. Our correspondent who visited the spot on Saturday and Sunday reports that no form of security could be seen along the road where the vehicles are parked on both sides of the street.

Some residents are calling on the Enugu state government to look into the activities of car theft in the area.
