Enugu Community Cut Off By Fallen Rocks

…community leader accuses council Chairman of abandoning them

Umuatubow village Eziama, Ogbaku in Awgu local government area of Enugu State, has been completely cut off from neighbouring community following the blockage of their only road by two heavy rocks.

Residents of the community (which is surrounded by hills) wake up on 6th October, 2022, to observe that that the only road out of their community has been blocked by two rocks which detached from their parent body after a heavy downpour.

JOURNALIST101 correspondent gathered that the community is trapped and attempt to ply the blocked road has left many Okada riders ending up in a valley behind the road.

An Okada rider from Eziama Ogbaku, Alfred Okoro while narrating his ordeal to our correspondent said they’re facing serous hardship as the road is the only means they transact their businesses.

“for over three weeks this happened, we have faced untold hardship. I feel into this ditch (pointing at the valley nearby) carrying an elderly woman to the market.”

He appealed to well-meaning individuals and “Our loving, caring and humane Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to come to our aid and save us from this misery.”

The Chairman of Obinagu Umuatubow Village, Eziama, Chukwuemeka Okolie while speaking to JOURNALIST101 said the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo was at the scene on the 14th of October and promised to remove the blockage.

“Regrettably, almost 2 weeks after he made this promise, nothing has been done to save the people of our community from this trap and impending danger.”

He also appealed to the Governor to come to their rescue.

“Please we are appealing to the State Governor to intervene and save us from this dangerous development and the stressful situations surrounding it.”
