The National Headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has suspended the collation of results in Abia and Enugu States over complaints by both the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the Labour Party, LP.

In a statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee Barr. Festus Okoye, the commission said the decision was after it’s meeting on Monday.

“Arising from the meeting the commission took the decision to suspend forthwith further collation of the Governorship results in some parts of Enugu and Abia States.

“It could be recalled that our office in Obingwa LGA was invaded by thugs on Sunday and officials held hostage in connection with the collation of results in the Council Area.

“Similarly, reports from Enugu State calls for a review of the results from two outstanding local government areas of Nsukka and Nkanu East LGA’s.

“Consequently, the commission hereby suspends the collation of results in Obingwa LGA and the two outstanding local government areas of Nsukka and Nkanu East which are yet to be collated.

“A review will be undertaken immediately before the process is concluded

“We appeal for the patience of voters, parties and candidates in the affected States.”

However, the issue of collation is surprising in Enugu as the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu directed the completion of collation in both local government areas under contention and it was recorded into the state result sheet.

In the collated results, Peter Mbah of the PDP is leading his closest challenger, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party with 16747 votes.

According to the results collated, the PDP polled a total of 174,289 votes while Labour Party had 157,542 votes.

The PDP won in Uzo-Uwani, Ezeagu, Aninri, Udi, Awgu, Nkanu East, Nkanu West Enugu South and Enugu East Local Government Areas

However, Labour Party took Igboeze North, Igboeze South, Igboetiti, Oji River, Nsukka, Isi-Uzo, Udenu and Enugu North local government areas.
