Oyo Police Command on Sunday said it has apprehended five members of a group, whixh forcefully hijacked Amuludun 99.1 FM at Moniya in Ibadan.
Police said the intention of the suspects, Noah Atoyebi, Gbenga Adeleke, Abdulganiyu Kolawole, Bashiru Kehinde and Elija Fajola, was to declare liberation from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
A statement by Oyo police spokesman Adewale Osifeso said the Command while on intelligence patrols intercepted the suspects after a distress call.
He said none of the personnel of the radio station or anyone was hurt as the Command responded swiftly in a well coordinated rescue operation.
He noted the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been detailed to lead a team to investigate circumstances that led to the incident, as well expand network of arrests thorough, painstaking intelligence driven investigation.
The statement declare the incident as an act of criminal, unpatriotic and a clear case of terrorism which would be handled with adequate sanctions under the laws of the land.
He urged parents and guardians to warn their children against being used to distrupt tomorrow’s event as heavy sanctions await defaulters and other unpatriotic elements sharing the same sinister motives.
