Dr. Sam Amadi, the Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts (ASSPT), has knocked Nigeria’s new president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the announcement of fuel subsidy removal.

The President, in his inaugural address on Monday, had declared an end to the era of subsidy payment, saying the 2023 budget made no provision for fuel subsidy, so further payment was no longer justifiable.

Dr. Amadi, the former Chairman/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), said the announcement with specifics on how to arrest the spike in prices of Petroleum motor spirits and allied products isn’t a bold move but a reckless one.

“Announcing removal of subsidy first thing on inauguration without specifying how to counter spike in energy prices and sending petrol price up by more than 100% is reckless, not bold,” the Associate Professor said via his twitter handle on Tuesday.

JOURNALIST101 had reported that the announcement made queues to resurface in major parts of Enugu and states in the country.

The prices of the product has gone as high as N300 per litre while in some hinterland, its going for up to N500 per litre.
