The members of Enugu State House of Assembly will be receiving the list of Commissioners from the Governor, Peter Mbah, Journalist101 has learnt.

JOURNALIST101 reports that the newly-elected president and governors in Nigeria are required by law to appoint ministers and commissioners 60 days from the day they are sworn into office.

This is in accordance with the Nigerian constitution as amended. In March, former President Muhammadu Buhari signed the bill into law.

According to section 42 of the constitution, “the nomination of any person to the office of a minister for confirmation by the senate shall be done within 60 days after the date the president has taken oath of office”.

President Bola Tinubu and governors, including the re-elected governors, took oath of office on May 29, 2023.

Speaking with Journalist101 correspondent, one of the members of the House said an emergency sitting has been called by the Speaker and the list of Commissioners is most likely the agenda of the day.

“Yes, Ndi Enugu will see the list of their Commissioners as submitted by the Governor today,” the lawmaker who doesn’t want his name in print said.

“By law, the Governor has until the end of today to submit the list to us and I’m very sure that will form the business of the day for us.”
