…cautions then against unguarded attack on Governor Peter Mbah or other position figures

The member representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Umeha has organised a one-day orientation retreat for his legislative aides.

Speaking at the retreat held in Enugu on Friday, 2nd February, Barr. Umeha said the orientation is to give his aides “adequate training geared towards ensuring that we fulfil the promises we made to the people of Udi and Ezeagu during the campaign.”

Speaking on the idea of retreat for his aides which is a new initiative for political appointees, the Labour party lawmaker said “before we came on board, we promised the people that it’s not going to be business as usual. The act of governance is a serious business and if you must do it, you must demonstrate readiness and capacity.

“The primary essence is for my aides- the people working for me and the people of Udi and Ezeagu to understand what the job is, to understand what service delivery is and to understand that we have pledged to deliver on a particular mandate given to us and we must deliver.

“Before now, people get appointed, they don’t even understand what the appointment is nor the responsibilities that comes with the appointment. Today, we said no, if you want to work for me and the people of Udi and Ezeagu, first, you should understand why I’m elected, what I expect you to do for the people of Udi and Ezeagu and the code of conduct because you’re now the image of the office, so we want people to understand the vision of the office and work with it.”

Barr. Umeha seized the opportunity to remind them that it’s not their duty to engage in frivolities nor propaganda against the Governor or other political figures in the states, stressing that all hands most be on deck and they must work with everyone to achieve greater result.

Rt. Hon. Sunday Umeha Speaking to his Aides at the event

“Their conduct has been made known to them and I made it so emphatic that now party politics is over and we’re fully into governance. I made it clear to them that the Governor of Enugu State is Peter Mbah and I don’t want to see any of my aides being involved in political gossips, insulting the Governor and doing all manner of things. That doesn’t mean that we won’t give constructive criticism when necessary but engaging in frivolities and social media propaganda, I don’t want any of my aides to be involved in that.

“I also tried to let them understand that there’s need for us to work with the Governor, Senator, Reps and state house of assembly member. The essence is to deliver service and dividends of democracy to the people so I don’t want them to be distracted.”

One of the resource persons,  Dr. Ambrose Igboke took the legislative aides on their duties and how best to help the Lawmaker achieve his aims and objectives, also charged them to think outside the box on how best to help him make people oriented laws.

“You’re the eyes of the Lawmaker in the grassroots and giving feedback is very key to the success of your principal.
