Engr. Lawrence Uzor has commended the recent move by Meta; the parent company of Instagram and Facebook to allow users in Nigeria monetize their accounts.

Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg, after a meeting with President Tinubu earlier in the week, said they’re set to launch a new feature on its Instagram and Facebook app in June 2024, aimed at empowering Nigerian creators to monetize their content and earn a livelihood through the platform.

In reaction to this, Engr. Uzor who’s also known for his philanthropy, said the move is long overdue, because Nigeria content creators have been facing a lot of frustrations as they couldn’t earn from their efforts and creativity.

He emphasized that while Nigerians contribute significantly to Facebook’s revenue through their extensive usage of the platform, they’re hitherto, forced to seek assistance from individuals residing in countries like the UK or USA, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and fraud.

He said Nigeria’s economy will bolster foreign exchange inflow, alleviate pressure on the national currency, and mitigate unemployment and crime rates among the youth demography.

Furthermore, Uzor emphasized that empowering Nigerian youths through access to monetization opportunities would not only stimulate economic growth but also contribute to a safer society by keeping them engaged in productive endeavors.

He also enjoined the Nigerian government to also do their part by giving the youths the enabling environment to thrive and provide a level playing field for them.
