…Says team of Igbo lawyers are being assembled to drag the FG to court

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the president general of apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has reiterated his call for the south east to be given additional state , adding that the region has lost trillions of Naira due to this imbalance.

Iwuanyanwu stated this on Wednesday during the one-day retreat of Ohanaeze Ndígbo themed “Ako bu ije” held in Enugu said it’s unfair for north west to have 7 state while other regions to have six states and the south east is left with only five.

He said a team of Igbo lawyers are being assembled to drag the federal government to court to ask for extra state and also demand for the trillions of Naira Igbos have lost because they’ve lesser number of states.

On the call for the amendment of the 1999 constitution Ohanaeze PG said Igbos support dissolution of power and allocation to be shared between the federal and state governments alone and let every region develop at its pace in their various local governments.

Iwuanyanwu said they support the position of Ohanaeze Ndígbo in January 2018 known as “Awka Declaration”. He maintained that no constitution amendment can be made without bringing Igbos at par with other regions.

Speaking on other issues affecting Ndịgbo, he said that efforts are being made to stop the hawking of awards with the names of late prominent Igbo sons.

He also issued a stern warning to those that have turned the name of Ohanaeze Ndígbo into a money making venture and assured that he will use everything he has to protect the integrity of Igbos, adding that he won’t allow rascals destroy what Igbos stand for.

In his speech, the chairman of the occasion and former military Governor of the Old Anambra and the Old Imo States, Admiral Allison Amaechina Madueke said it’s time we take a step backward and rebuild the movement because any movement without tact will end in failure.

The former Chief of Naval Staff of the Nigerian Armed Forces, added that Igbos need to ask themselves where they missed their step and begin to male amends for better results.
