The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has condemned the arrest of their members by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, demanding their  immediate release.

The Deputy Coordinator of NANS Southwest, Comrade Taiwo Owolewa, in a statement issued on Thursday, said that some of the NANS members were unjustly arrested during a peaceful protest at the Ibadan Zonal Headquarters of the EFCC

Owolewa while describing the action of the EFCC as “unjust”, stated that “it is right for students to exercise their fundamental right and peacefully assemble themselves to protest against any form of intimidation, victimisation and oppression from any quarters.

“This blatant violation of their rights is a clear attempt to silence dissenting voices and stifle citizens’ right to hold those in power accountable.

“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of our comrades and call on the EFCC to respect the rights of citizens to peaceful protest and freedom of expression. We will continue to mobilize and exercise our rights until justice is served.”
