Nnamdi Kanu in Court on 21st October, 2021

Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has reacted after report that Kanu escaped from custody.

Ejimakor denied reports on Friday that Kanu had escaped from his holding facility at the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.

He stated, “It’s not true. I will be visiting him today at 2:00 pm. Kanu is a responsible and courageous freedom fighter who is determined to stay and fight the injustice within the system, not outside of it. He is too committed to consider the option of escaping.”

Efforts to contact DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls or respond to text messages.

Reports had emerged suggesting that Kanu escaped from DSS custody on Thursday, along with his case file.

The report titled “Breaking news: Nnamdi Kanu escapes from DSS custody with case file” claimed that the escape was executed with meticulous planning, catching the authorities off guard. The details of the escape remain unclear, with speculation about possible insider assistance or external support
