Sixteen people were burnt to death and three others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident on the Ore-Benin Expressway at Ajure community in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday night.
Reports indicate that the crash involved an 18-passenger Toyota Hiace bus and a truck. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing the bus to catch fire and killing 16 of its occupants.
According to PUNCH, Mr. Ibitoye Samuel, the Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident on Wednesday.
He stated that the accident was caused by overspeeding and improper overtaking by both vehicles. The rescue operation concluded at around 11 pm.
