The late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, will be buried on November 1.
This announcement was made by the national burial committee in Abuja shortly after its inauguration by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.
The inauguration, held on Tuesday in Abuja, included South-East stakeholders, including both current and former senators, as members.
Iwuanyanwu, a businessman, politician, and philanthropist known for his significant contributions to various sectors of the country, passed away on July 25.
During a briefing with newsmen after the committee’s formation, Uzodinma, who is also the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, stated that the committee was established to ensure a befitting burial for the late President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
“The national committee for the burial of our great leader, Iwuanyanwu, the immediate past President-General of Ndigbo, has been constituted,” Uzodinma said. “The goal is to provide him with a burial that reflects his esteemed status.”
Senator Ben Obi, the chairman of the committee, reaffirmed that Iwuanyanwu would be buried on November 1. He described the late Ndigbo leader as a global citizen, noting his excellence in various fields.
“The sacrifices he made for the Igbo nation are admirable to all of us. It is our collective decision, in collaboration with other associations like Afenifere, PANDEF, the Middle Belt Forum, and the Arewa Consultative Forum, to ensure he receives a befitting burial,” Obi stated.
“We are thankful that Uzodinma has facilitated our gathering. They have agreed with the Primate of the Anglican Church that he will be buried on November 1. We will ensure a respectful and honorable tribute,” Obi added.
