As the September 21 council election in Enugu State approaches, the Isi-Uzo Traditional Rulers Council has thrown its support behind Hon. Obiora Obeagu, the immediate past Council Chairman and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate seeking a second term. They described him as the embodiment of a people’s leader.

The endorsement ceremony took place on Thursday at the palace of HRH Igwe Okey Ogbodo, the Chairman of the Isi-Uzo Traditional Rulers Council and the traditional ruler of Ikem Uno.

The royal fathers reminisced about the prayers they offered for Hon. Obeagu at the end of his first term, during which they presented him with the ofo stick. They indicated their willingness to meet with Governor Peter Mbah and PDP leaders to further bolster Obeagu’s bid for re-election.

In their remarks, they emphasized that his candidacy is a prayer answered. They urged him to maintain his virtues of humility, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to the people of Isi-Uzo upon re-election.

HRH Igwe Okey Ogbodo, while expressing gratitude to Governor Mbah and party leaders for endorsing Obeagu, conveyed his full confidence in the candidate’s ability to deliver, pledging their steadfast support.

Several royal fathers, facing security challenges in their border communities, noted that they had not felt Obeagu’s absence since he left office; he continued to collaborate with them and the governor on security issues. “As far as I’m concerned, you never left office. From the day you stepped down until now, we have remained in touch about security. You kept doing your job even out of office,” said Igwe Pius Nnamani, the traditional ruler of Ikem-Nkwo.

Hon. Obiora Obeagu expressed his heartfelt gratitude and joy for the overwhelming support from the traditional rulers. He committed to strengthening partnerships with them in crucial areas such as community engagement, development, and security, assuring them that his administration would continue to prioritize the well-being of Isi-Uzo communities if re-elected.

The event culminated in a round of prayers led by HRH Igwe Edmund Ogbu, the traditional ruler of Umuhu, who sought blessings for Obeagu’s campaign, future victory, and a fruitful second term.

Hon. Obeagu was accompanied by a strong delegation from his campaign organization, including Hon. Jacob Abonyi, the former Executive Chairman and current PDP Chairman of Isi-Uzo; Hon. Uche Ugwueze, the Director General of the Obiora Obeagu Campaign Organization; Dr. Obinna Nnamchi, the PDP Vice Chairmanship candidate; and Hon. Barr Azubuike Odo, the campaign’s spokesperson.

Also present was Hon. Duhu, the Coordinating President General of Isi-Uzo, along with members of the Isi-Uzo women’s group and other key stakeholders.
