In a significant move to bolster micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), the Enugu State Government has announced a landmark trade fair designed to accelerate growth for local businesses. Slated for November 2024, this event highlights the state’s dedication to nurturing a thriving SME ecosystem, which is crucial for its economic expansion agenda.

At a press conference in Enugu on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on MSMEs and Digital Economy, Arinze Chilo-Offiah, unveiled details about the trade fair, which will operate under the newly established brand, the “Enugu 042 Naija Brand Chick Trade Fair.” The inaugural event is scheduled for November 2nd and 3rd, 2024, with plans for it to become an annual highlight on the state’s business calendar.

This trade fair represents a collaborative effort between the Enugu State Government, through its SME Agency and Office of Digital Economy, and NaijaBrandChick, a prominent business influencer and entrepreneur focused on empowering SMEs across Nigeria and beyond. The partnership aims to offer Enugu-based businesses exceptional opportunities to connect with both local and international markets.

“We are excited to introduce the ‘Enugu 042 Naija Brand Chick Trade Fair,’ an event that will open new doors for our SMEs by linking them to global markets,” stated Mr. Chilo-Offiah. “Our partner, NaijaBrandChick, has successfully organized similar events in major Nigerian cities and internationally, and we are confident this collaboration will yield tremendous benefits for Enugu’s business community.”

Chilo-Offiah noted that this initiative aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s broader vision to revitalize Enugu’s economy by promoting private-sector investment and enhancing the ease of doing business. He emphasized that Governor Mbah recognizes the critical role SMEs play as the backbone of a thriving economy.

“The governor is deeply committed to unlocking new business opportunities in Enugu and is providing solid support for this initiative,” Chilo-Offiah added. “This trade fair will not only expose local entrepreneurs to new possibilities but will also position Enugu as a hub for commerce and innovation.”

Mrs. Nelly Agbogu, founder of NaijaBrandChick, also addressed attendees at the press conference, emphasizing the anticipated impact of the trade fair. “We expect vendors from across Nigeria and beyond to participate, creating a vibrant marketplace filled with business opportunities and connections,” Agbogu remarked. “Our goal is to empower these businesses by enhancing their visibility, connecting them to new customers, and facilitating their growth.”

In addition to trade, Agbogu highlighted that the fair will feature workshops and training sessions for participants. “We are not only focused on trade, but we are also bringing in financial experts, business strategy consultants, and technology specialists to equip vendors with the skills they need for success. From content creation to marketing strategies, this event will provide a comprehensive platform for business growth,” she explained.

The Enugu 042 Naija Brand Chick Trade Fair is poised to draw not only local vendors but also participants from across Nigeria and internationally, cementing its status as a significant event for business development in the region.

With its emphasis on innovation, capacity building, and market expansion, the Enugu State Government and NaijaBrandChick aim to deliver an unparalleled opportunity for MSMEs in the state and beyond, fostering a ripple effect that will promote sustainable economic growth.

The Enugu SME Center (“Enugu SME” or “Agency”) serves as the State Developmental Finance Institution dedicated to acting as a catalyst for job creation and facilitating easier access to resources necessary for entrepreneurs and investors in the MSME sector, aiming for sustainable economic development in Enugu State.
