Senator Shehu Buba, representing the South Senatorial District of Bauchi State, is facing a recall process amid alarming allegations linking him to individuals connected to terrorism in Northern Nigeria.
Media reports indicate that the controversy has ignited grassroots movements within his constituency, where residents are demanding both accountability and the senator’s removal from office.
Abubakar Idris, a known terrorist figure arrested on August 17, 2024, reportedly named Buba during his interrogation, inciting a wave of outrage throughout the senatorial district.
In response to the backlash, a formal recall initiative has begun, with an increasing number of registered voters signing a petition to oust the senator.
Compounding Senator Buba’s troubles, recent disclosures have cast doubt on his claimed origins, with reports suggesting he actually hails from Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State.
“We thought he was one of us, but he’s not even a Bauchi indigene,” an anonymous community leader lamented in an interview with a journalist in the state.
