The World Igbo National Union (WINU) has strongly condemned what it described as the gruesome killings of innocent Igbo youths in Umualaoma Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, following the circulation of a disturbing video that surfaced on July 24, 2025.

In a press statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ifeanyi Uwakwe, WINU expressed deep concern over the “brutal killings” and the silence of the Imo State government, calling it “disheartening and unacceptable.”

“We express our deepest condolences to the families affected by this heinous act and stand in solidarity with the people of Ideato,” the statement read. “The silence of the Imo State government on this urgent matter is disheartening and unacceptable. It is imperative that government authorities issue a formal statement condemning these actions and reinforcing their commitment to the protection of lives within our communities.”

WINU called on the Imo State Government to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the killings and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. The group also urged all South Eastern governors to take urgent steps to improve security in the region.

“This should include sponsoring local vigilantes and installing security cameras in strategic locations to bolster effective policing,” WINU stated, warning of the growing threat from “Fulani terrorist invaders who are infiltrating our neighborhoods.”

In a call for communal vigilance, the group appealed to youths across communities to closely monitor the activities of non-citizens in their areas.

“Security is a collective responsibility, and we must work together to thwart any attempts by foreign invaders to undermine our safety and well-being,” the statement added.

The Union also raised alarms over recent statements by Niger Delta militant leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, who allegedly claimed responsibility for the killings of Igbo youths in parts of Imo and Anambra States.

“His continued freedom following such admissions is alarming and raises questions about accountability and law enforcement,” WINU said. “We call for the immediate arrest of Asari Dokubo and all individuals involved in these violent acts. The Department of State Services (DSS) must take decisive action to ensure that justice is served.”

Reaffirming its stance against violence in Igbo land, WINU declared, “We will not tolerate any form of extrajudicial killings or violence in Igbo land. The systematic oppression of our people must end. We will remain vigilant and actively seek justice for our community, ensuring that no more lives are lost senselessly.”

The group’s statement underscores growing concerns among southeastern communities over rising insecurity, with demands mounting for government accountability and immediate action.
