Dr. Mupwaya said that MainPower is deploying strategic initiatives designed to transform electricity distribution and enhance customer service starting with a roll out free meter installations in high-loss areas, with a goal to meter all customers by 2027.

He emphasized that accurate and transparent billing will ensure customers only pay for the energy they consume, fostering fairness and encouraging energy conservation.

“A key part of MainPower’s service improvement plan is the launch of a comprehensive metering program to eliminate estimated billing,” he stated.

“This initiative is expected to build greater customer trust and enhance MainPower’s revenue assurance.

“As a newly established subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), MainPower aims to meet the specific energy needs of Enugu residents, providing reliable, transparent, and efficient services.

“The creation of this company aligns with Nigeria’s recent regulatory reforms aimed at developing a customer-centered power distribution system that promotes innovation and customer engagement to enhance reliability and service,” he said.

Dr. Mupwaya outlined MainPower’s objectives, emphasizing the company’s goal of achieving 24/7 electricity supply throughout Enugu State within the next three years.

“This ambitious goal will be achieved through a phased approach, starting with urban and commercial areas before expanding to residential customers. Realizing this vision will require significant infrastructure upgrades and collaboration with independent power producers (IPPs) to secure essential additional power sources. MainPower’s mission is in step with broader regulatory reforms aimed at creating sustainable and efficient power distribution.

“MainPower is also establishing partnerships with private investors to accelerate meter installations and improve its distribution network. These collaborations will bring additional resources, expertise, and advanced technology, allowing for quicker and more cost-effective enhancements.

“Through increased investment in metering and infrastructure, MainPower aims to create a more resilient and reliable distribution network capable of meeting the rising demand for electricity across Enugu,” he added.

Engr. Chinedum Ukabara, Commissioner of the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC), affirmed the EERC’s commitment to fair and transparent regulation to attract investments into the state’s power sector.

He encouraged customers to support these improvements by staying current with bill payments, as customer cooperation is vital for sustaining the benefits of the reforms.
