The Enugu State Police Command says it has conducted a series of successful operations, leading to the arrest of two male armed robbery suspects and the recovery of five firearms, two live cartridges, a stolen tricycle, and other incriminating items.
Given further details of the successful operation, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe said “On November 22, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police operatives from the Abakpa Division, in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, apprehended Daniel Aniude, a 29-year-old male residing at No. 27, Isiekenise Street, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu. Aniude and his accomplices, who managed to escape, were caught in the act of robbing a female victim.
“An imitation pistol was seized during the operation. Following further investigations by the Anti-Robbery (D9) Section of the State CID, Aniude was arraigned in court and remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Service.
Ndukwe further disclosed that “In a separate incident, on November 12, 2024, at about 2 p.m., police from the Nkanu East Division, supported by Neighbourhood Watch members and vigilant citizens, arrested 25-year-old Uzor David from Isu community in Aniocha LGA of Ebonyi State.
“David had previously hired a tricycle from Holy Ghost, Enugu, to Nara in Nkanu East LGA. Upon arrival, he shot the tricyclist in the hand with a locally made pistol, then forcibly took the tricycle in an attempt to flee.
“However, security operatives intervened swiftly, arresting him and recovering both the tricycle and the firearm. The injured victim is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition. David will be charged in court upon completion of ongoing investigations.
“Furthermore, on December 10, 2024, at around 2 a.m., police operatives from the Emene Division, assisted by the Neighbourhood Watch, thwarted an armed robbery attempt at Upper Rehab, Emene, Enugu. The robbers fled, abandoning a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge, both of which were later recovered.
“Additionally, an attempted robbery on December 2, 2024, at College Road, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, was thwarted by operatives from the Abakpa Division in coordination with the Neighbourhood Watch. The fleeing suspects left behind a locally made pistol and two live cartridges, which were recovered.
“Moreover, on December 6, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police operatives from the Enugu Metro Area Command, acting on credible information, discovered a Beretta pistol concealed in a sack containing cassava flakes (garri) at Abakpa Junction Bus Stop, Enugu. A discreet investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has reiterated the Command’s unwavering determination to make Enugu State unsafe for criminals throughout the festive season and beyond. He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in supporting the police with credible information and intelligence.
