Operatives from the Enugu State Police Command have arrested three individuals on charges of armed robbery and cultism in separate operations across the state, recovering three firearms, eight live cartridges, and other exhibits.

Providing further insights into these operational successes, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, stated, “On January 14, 2025, operatives from the Oji-River Police Division arrested two male suspects: Okorie Israel Nweze (25) and Tobechukwu Emmanuel (20), at Garriki, Ugwuoba, Oji-River. From the suspects, police recovered two pump-action guns and six live cartridges. They confessed to participating in armed robbery and other criminal activities, including drug trafficking along Abakaliki Road in Awka, Anambra State.”

“In a separate operation on January 2, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m., operatives from the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, intervened to rescue and apprehend one Effia Onyedika John (27), known as ‘Fela,’ from a hostile mob at Ugbo-Paul in Abakpa-Nike, Enugu. A locally made double-barrelled pistol, loaded with two live cartridges, was seized from him. The suspect admitted to being a member of the Vikings confraternity and part of a criminal gang responsible for numerous armed robberies and thefts within the Enugu metropolis.”

Ndukwe assured the public that the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

He also added, “While commending the efforts of our operatives, CP Kanayo has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to making Enugu State an inhospitable environment for unrepentant criminals and their activities in 2025. He urges citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and support the police by providing credible and actionable information to aid in combating crime.”
