The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences Enugu (FUAHSE), Prof. John Emaimo, has announced that the university’s academic approach focuses on providing practical education to students, ensuring they graduate ready to integrate seamlessly into the national healthcare workforce.
He also revealed that the pioneer students, who commenced formal academic activities on Friday, will graduate with dual certifications: a bachelor’s degree and a Diploma in their chosen entrepreneurial field.
Prof. Emaimo made these statements during the university’s Founders’ Day celebration in its Enugu campus.
He emphasised that the institution was established to enable graduates to become employers of labour, significantly contributing to national development while embodying self-respect, integrity, and strong moral values.
“As we commemorate our inception today, we are confident that tomorrow we will celebrate even greater achievements. We will look back to appreciate how far we have come, but we will also continue to gaze forward with optimism,” Emaimo stated.
The Traditional Ruler of the host community, HRH Igwe Julius Nnaji, commended the remarkable transformation of the institution from a Dental College to a university dedicated to Allied Health Sciences.
Igwe Nnaji acknowledged that the university will supply the necessary workforce for the multiple healthcare facilities being developed by the Enugu State Governor, adding that the start of academic activities will spur an increased demand for admission into its various allied healthcare programmes.
“It’s a significant transition from a Dental College to a university; our people are now inspired, and I can return home knowing we have accomplished something meaningful,” Igwe Nnaji remarked.
The Students’ Union Government leader, Maurice Ugwuoti, described the Vice-Chancellor as a role model for the students.
“He prioritises our success, and with a dedicated and exceptional staff, our institution is building a stellar reputation; we are the hope for medical tourism in Enugu State,” Ugwuoti stated.
Keynote and goodwill speeches were delivered by notable figures, including Prof. Emmanuel Iyidobi, Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital Enugu; Prof. Mark Okeji, Chairman of the Committee of Registrars of Health Professions; Rev. Prof. Hyginus Ezegwui, Provost of the College of Medicine at the University of Nigeria Nsukka; and many others.
