A former presidential spokesperson Doyin Okupe has died at the age of 72.

His passing was confirmed on Friday, 7th March 2025.

According to SaharaReporters, sources close to the family disclosed that Dr. Okupe had been gravely ill in the weeks leading up to his death, with his struggles linked to a long-standing battle with cancer.

Sixteen years ago, he faced prostate cancer, followed by a fight against sarcoma in his right shoulder.

Despite being hospitalised in October 2023 and subsequently flown to Israel for treatment, his condition failed to improve as he and his family had fervently hoped.

Okupe, who made headlines as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign, faced a turbulent political journey that saw him resign from the role after a court conviction for money laundering.

Following the 2023 general election, he departed from the Labour Party and emerged as a passionate advocate for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

His legacy also includes his tenure as a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political narrative.
