First Bank of Nigeria Plc officially inaugurated its Digital Xperience Centre at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
This centre, the sixth fully automated branch of First Bank, operates twenty-four hours a day, providing both digital and physical banking services.
The Digital Xperience Centre represents a significant advancement by First Bank in its efforts to revolutionise the banking industry in Nigeria. It serves as a state-of-the-art hub that enables customers to experience world-class innovative banking services and explore the future of banking firsthand.
Speaking during the launch, the Managing Director of First Bank, Mr Olusegun Alebiosu, praised the longstanding relationship between the bank and UNN, which he noted has existed for decades. He recalled that the land on which the bank is situated was generously provided to First Bank at no cost by the university authorities.
Mr Alebiosu remarked, “The Digital Xperience Centre is very simple to navigate. Get your ATM cards, and do your transactions yourselves. This initiative aims to enhance the banking experience for students and the community by providing convenient digital banking solutions.”
He outlined the key features of the centre, which include Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) for account updates, ATM card issuance, and fixed deposit booking; Teller Cash Recyclers (TCRs) for quicker cash dispensing and management; as well as humanoid robots to assist customers with inquiries and transactions.
Mr Alebiosu added, “This is telling the whole world that we are prepared for the future. The future starts with this technology. We are going to launch all these across many campuses in Nigeria. Our relationship with UNN has been cordial. This land was given to First Bank for free. We shall continue to strengthen this partnership.”
The Vice Chancellor of UNN, Prof Oguejiofor Ujam, also spoke at the event, highlighting that First Bank has been a valuable partner to UNN and expressing his commitment to maintaining this relationship.
He stated, “UNN has been doing businesses with First Bank for a long time. It is an honour that UNN is the first university to get this digital experience in the country.”
Mr Calistus Obetta, the Group Executive for Technology, Digital Innovations and Technology Services, described the FB Digital Technology Experience as a blend of digital and physical experiences.
He explained, “Whether you are doing account opening or withdrawal, they can be done without hitches. It reflects the dynamics of the era. The banking operations are now available twenty-four hours.”
Journalist101 reports that the centre also provides additional services, including account statements, account enquiry/management, funds transfer, card services, and cheque management.
