ERA pledges support for ethical real estate practices and people-focused housing development
The Enugu State Realtors Association (ERA), the umbrella body representing realtors and estate brokers across Enugu State, has reiterated its commitment to collaborate with the Enugu State Ministry of Housing to promote ethical real estate practices and support people-centered housing initiatives.
This was made known during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the association to the Enugu State Commissioner for Housing, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, on May 12, 2025, in a move described as historic by the association.
ERA to Bridge Gaps and Regulate Practice
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman, Rt. Hon. Okafor Obidimma Stephen, stated that the association was born out of necessity to provide structure, professionalism, and accountability among real estate agents in the state.
“ERA aims to serve as a bridge between realtors, the government, and the general public—who are the primary consumers of real estate services. We are also committed to eliminating fraud by holding dishonest practitioners accountable,” he said.
A statement issued by Assistant Secretary of ERA, Eze Izuchukwu Philips said the Chairman of the Association explained that they’re taking proactive steps to address the activities of impostors and unregulated agents who have defrauded unsuspecting property seekers in the past.
Housing Commissioner Applauds ERA’s Initiative
The Honourable Commissioner for Housing, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, who received the delegation, expressed delight at the visit and the association’s vision. He assured the association of the ministry’s willingness to collaborate with stakeholders to enhance housing delivery and transparency.
“Your visit is timely, and your mission is commendable. We look forward to working with ERA to ensure that our housing policies and projects reflect professionalism and truly serve the people of Enugu,” he said.
A Call for Continued Partnership
The Chairman, along with other executive members, thanked the commissioner for his warm reception and pledged the association’s availability for collaboration at any time.
“We are fully committed to supporting the Ministry of Housing in delivering its mandate and ensuring that the real estate sector in Enugu thrives on transparency and integrity,” Stephen added.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing hope that the new synergy would improve investor confidence, curb fraudulent practices, and enhance regulatory compliance in the real estate space.
