The police have apprehended two suspects for allegedly terrorising residents of Nnewi in Anambra State.
Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga announced the arrests in a statement released on Friday. He noted that this action is part of ongoing efforts by the police to ensure a secure environment for both residents and visitors, with the aim of fostering job creation and business growth.
Mr Ikenga emphasised the command’s dedication to public safety and its proactive approach to preventing crime in Anambra.
“In line with the above, police operatives attached to Otolo-Nnewi today arrested two suspects and recovered one foreign-made pistol, three live ammunitions, and a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen,” he stated.
The arrested individuals, identified as Ani Obinna, 21, and Okwudili Ezike, 43, were taken into custody following a pursuit by police operatives acting on intelligence that led to the discovery of a criminal hideout in Nnewi.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a secret cult and a kidnapping gang,” Mr Ikenga added.
He also mentioned that the suspects provided valuable information, which the operatives are currently investigating in an effort to dismantle their criminal network and apprehend other fleeing gang members.
“To this end, the command has sustained security patrols in the area and is more committed to fostering a secure environment for meaningful work and businesses to thrive in the state,” he concluded.
