“It appears that she was carrying an explosive device and planned to plant it at a bank’s ATM,” a senior police official stated to Reuters.

“Something went wrong and exploded in her hands.”

Despite being rushed to the hospital, the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities revealed that she had a criminal history related to drugs and prostitution, with previous involvement in robbery and theft.

Investigations are currently underway to ascertain whether she had any connections to extreme leftist groups.

Greece has experienced sporadic bombings linked to organised crime and politically motivated violence in recent years.

In April, a new group named Revolutionary Class Struggle claimed responsibility for a bomb explosion in central Athens, highlighting a concerning trend of emerging domestic extremist activity.
