Professor James Oguakwa

The burial arrangements of Professor James Udengene Oguakwa, UNESCO Scholar, Nobel Prize for Chemistry Nominee & former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka, have been announced.

According to the burial programme released by the Family today, (which incidentally commemorates Professor Oguakwa’s May 5 posthumous birthday), and signed by his son, former Chairman, Committees on Aviation, States & LG Affairs, Tourism & Culture at Nigeria’s House of Representatives Abuja, Ozo Ebubeagu Enugu State, Rt Hon Barrister KGB Oguakwa, their late father, Professor Oguakwa, is to buried in Inyi, Oji-River Local Government Area of Enugu State on Friday, July 25, 2025.

It will be recalled that in a statement titled “A DISTINGUISHED ACADEMIC, A GENTLE, PEACEFUL MAN, DEPARTS”, which was released by his family during the closing days of 2024, the demise of Professor Oguakwa who had died peacefully at home surrounded by the warmth of his beloved family, was announced.

Survived by his poet-lawyer-politician son KGB, by his eldest daughter Dr. Ifesi – one of the 20 athletes that represented Nigeria at the 1986 World Junior Championship in Athletics in Athens, Greece, who is a United States Board Certified Family Physician, by his youngest child Mrs. Viviana Nwamaka Chukwuani – a Federal Public Servant, and by Grandchildren, Brother, Sisters, Nephews, Nieces & numerous relatives, Professor Oguakwa was aged 88 years.

The Family also expressed gratitude for the condolence visits, the commiserative solidarity and prayers they have continued to receive in the aftermath of the translation unto eternity of their beloved departed Patriarch.
