The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that Martins Innocent Otse popularly known as VeryDarkMan was arrested following serious allegations of financial misconduct.
EFCC in a terse statement on its X account said VeryDarkMan was arrested after he failed to respond to multiple invitations to appear before the Commission concerning various petitions filed against him.
The statement stated, “The allegations against Mr Otse are grave and cannot be overlooked. We are dedicated to addressing economic and financial crimes, and this case is part of our ongoing efforts.”
The statement also clarified that VeryDarkMan’s previous criticisms of the EFCC did not influence the decision to arrest him. “While we condemn any unguarded attacks against our operations, his arrest is not a response to those statements. We will allow the relevant law enforcement agencies to handle those matters,” they explained.
Following his arrest, Otse has been granted administrative bail. “Mr Otse can be released after fulfilling the specified bail conditions,” the statement further confirmed.
Continuing, the EFCC urged the public to allow the Commission to conduct its investigations without interference.
“We appreciate the interest of Nigerians in our operations, but we ask that insinuations regarding our motives cease. The EFCC must be allowed to do its job without fear or favour,” the spokesperson concluded.
The Commission plans to conclude its investigations promptly, with potential charges to be filed against Otse if warranted.
