In a heartfelt tribute, Hon. Princess Obiajulu Ugwu, Deputy Chief Whip of the Enugu State House of Assembly, has celebrated His Excellency, Senator Dr. Jim Nwobodo, as he marks his 85th birthday.
Jim Nwobodo, a distinguished statesman and son of Enugu, is renowned for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to public service.
“Today, we gather with immense pride to honour an extraordinary leader whose journey through life exemplifies visionary leadership and political dexterity,” Ugwu stated. “Senator Nwobodo has not only served with dignity but has also defined what it means to lead with principle and purpose.”
Reflecting on Nwobodo’s tenure as the first civilian Governor of the old Anambra State, Ugwu lauded his transformative governance, which prioritised education, youth development, and infrastructure.
“The establishment of the Anambra State University of Technology, now the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, remains a towering legacy that continues to empower generations through access to quality education and innovation,” she remarked.
As a senator and later a federal minister, Nwobodo showcased remarkable political acumen, contributing wisdom and stability to the national discourse. “Your name has become synonymous with statesmanship,” Ugwu noted.
“You have been a moral compass in moments of national reflection, leading with calm authority and exemplifying service with both heart and intellect.”
Ugwu emphasised the deep respect Nwobodo commands across Nigeria, stating, “Few public figures have earned the admiration of their people the way you have. You represent a generation of leaders whose impact is profound and transformative.”
On a personal note, Ugwu expressed her pride in sharing a connection with Nwobodo. “Often, when I introduce myself, the first question I am asked is, ‘Are you from that same Jim Nwobodo’s Amechi?’ Your name evokes admiration, dignity, and pride. For many of us from Amechi, you are not just a legend, but a reference point of excellence,” she shared.
As the celebrations continue, Ugwu conveyed her gratitude for Nwobodo’s life and service. “May your days be filled with peace, strength, and the knowledge that your life’s work has inspired countless lives,” she concluded.
