Members of the House of Representatives during plenary

Three members of the House of Representatives have formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The defecting lawmakers are Hon. Oluwole Oke (PDP–Osun), Hon. Kabiru Rurum (NNPP–Kano), and Hon. Abdullahi Rogo (NNPP–Kano). Their defection was announced during plenary on Thursday, with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas reading their letters of resignation from their former parties.

Oke, a veteran lawmaker representing the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State, had earlier hinted at his intention to leave the PDP in a statement issued on April 23. He cited wide consultations with political associates, friends, and family as the basis for his decision.

The APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, was present in the chamber to witness the formal declaration. He was accompanied by Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, and other top APC leaders from Kano State.

The development is seen as a boost to the APC’s numerical strength in the House as political realignments continue ahead of future elections.
