…Calls for Unity, Strategic Alliance to Secure Southeast for APC in 2027

As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State mark two years in office, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Hon. Anthony Amalu, has lauded their leadership while warning that internal crisis within the state chapter of the APC could derail the party’s political prospects.

In a strongly worded statement titled “Two Years in Office: A Moment of Reflection and Action,” Amalu praised the transformative strides made at both national and state levels, urging the APC in Enugu to emulate the unity and visionary leadership demonstrated by President Tinubu and Governor Mbah.

“President Tinubu’s tenure has propelled Nigeria into a new era of stability and growth,” Amalu stated. “Through bold reforms like fuel subsidy removal and naira floatation, inflation has been stabilized, and over $20 billion in foreign investments attracted.”

He further highlighted major infrastructural gains including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Second Niger Bridge, along with a notable 60% reduction in insurgency-related attacks in the Northeast.

“Most importantly is the establishment of the South East Development Commission. The Renewed Hope agenda is indeed alive and active,” Amalu added.

Turning to Enugu State, Amalu commended Governor Mbah’s performance under the Tomorrow is Here agenda, noting substantial progress in education, healthcare, and agriculture.

However, he expressed concern over what he described as a festering internal crisis in the Enugu APC, citing unjust suspensions and the vilification of party members who acknowledge Governor Mbah’s contributions.

“Unjust suspensions and labeling party bigwigs as moles simply for acknowledging Governor Mbah’s achievements is inimical to party development,” he said. “If supporting progress is deemed betrayal, how do we justify the praises he received from President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima during their visit to Enugu?”

Amalu warned that the expulsion of seasoned political actors hampers efforts to attract Governor Mbah into the APC — a move he believes is crucial to securing 95% of Southeast votes in 2027.

“Expelling seasoned political negotiators cripples efforts to persuade Governor Mbah to join the APC,” he said. “Political success requires strategic alliances. Alienating influential members weakens our ability to grow and consolidate power.”

He urged the APC leadership in Enugu State to embrace unity and inclusivity, calling for an immediate course correction.

“A divided party falls; a united one rises. Alienating our best minds is like setting fire to the bridge before crossing the river.”

Amalu’s proposed solutions include rescinding suspensions, denouncing factional conflicts, fostering inclusivity, and initiating formal discussions to bring Governor Mbah into the APC.

“Leadership is about service, not division. President Tinubu and Governor Mbah exemplify this principle, and the Enugu APC must follow their lead,” he said. “By prioritizing unity, inclusivity, and strategic collaboration, we can secure political dominance in Enugu and strengthen Nigeria’s Renewed Hope agenda.”

He concluded with a strong call to action:

“The time for decisive action is now — the nation is watching.”
