A Police-led Joint Security Force has dismantled a notorious criminal hideout in Agulu-Ezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, neutralizing one armed suspect and recovering stolen property, including vehicles, household items, and other incriminating materials.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of June 5, 2025, was carried out by a joint task force comprising personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the security team stormed the criminal camp in a coordinated operation and engaged the armed hoodlums in a fierce gun battle that lasted over seven hours.
“The Joint Security Force in a well-coordinated operation overran the criminal camp after a seven-hour gun duel with the armed hoodlums,” SP Ikenga said.
During the raid, one of the suspects was fatally wounded, while others fled the scene. The operatives recovered an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna with registration number EKY 03 FF, an unregistered white Mazda Hilux, one motorcycle, as well as several household and kitchen items.
“Items recovered include pots, gallons, groceries, sleeping mattresses, mechanical tools, clothes, and other incriminating items,” the police spokesperson revealed.
SP Ikenga added that the security operatives are still combing the area for fleeing suspects, as signs of fresh bloodstains were discovered at the scene, indicating that others may have sustained injuries during the gun battle.
“The Operatives are still combing the area for possible arrest of other fleeing suspects because of a lot of fresh blood stains in the area,” he said.
The Anambra State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and urged members of the public to continue supporting the ongoing operations by providing useful and timely information.
