The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has distanced itself from a recent publication that criticised Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over his visit to a government function, describing the statement as misleading, unauthorised, and not reflective of the party’s position.
In a response signed by Hon. Chief Alaezi Onyekwere John, the Zonal Publicity Secretary of the APC in Abia North, the party declared that the individual behind the controversial write-up — which was circulated under the title “Abia APC Frowns at Sen. Kalu’s Visit…” — is not known to the APC in any official capacity.
“The individual behind the write-up is unknown to the party in any official capacity, and certainly not recognised as the Publicity Secretary,” the statement read. “We challenge him to substantiate his claims of holding such an office.”
The party described the publication as a “poorly constructed and baseless” attempt to misrepresent its stance, alleging that the statement was driven by personal vendetta rather than party consensus.
“The content of the write-up is not only misleading but also a clear misrepresentation of the party’s position. It reeks of personal vendetta, lacks internal consultation, and does not reflect the views of the Abia APC leadership or membership,” Chief Onyekwere added.
Reaffirming the party’s respect for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the statement emphasized that the former Abia governor retains the constitutional right to associate and engage across party lines in pursuit of development and national interest.
“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains a respected leader of our party, with the constitutional right to engage with any administration in the spirit of development, peace, and constructive governance,” the statement noted.
“Commending good governance, irrespective of party lines, is not a betrayal — it is statesmanship.”
The Abia APC further cautioned individuals seeking political relevance through divisive and unauthorised publications to desist, urging members and the public to focus on the party’s mission of unity and credible opposition.
“The APC in Abia State is focused on unity, rebuilding, and playing a credible role as an opposition party, not on petty attacks and political mischief.”
Concluding, the party called on the public to disregard the anti-Kalu publication, branding it as the personal opinion of an individual who neither speaks for nor represents the Abia State APC.
“The write-up in question lacks credibility, authority, and substance. It should be disregarded by the public and treated as the personal opinion of someone who neither speaks for nor represents the Abia State chapter of our great party.”
