In a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on cultism and violent crimes, the Enugu State Police Command has recovered a locally fabricated double-barreled pistol following the arrest and confession of two suspected cultists.
The suspects, identified as Uchenna Onwudi (29) and Eze Chiadikobi (31), were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad for conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and involvement in cult-related activities.
According to the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects confessed to being members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and led the police to an uncompleted building in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, where the firearm was recovered.
“The operatives, acting on credible intelligence and the suspects’ confessions, recovered a locally fabricated double-barreled pistol hidden in an uncompleted building,” said SP Ndukwe in an official statement issued Tuesday.
He further disclosed that investigations into the case are ongoing and that both suspects, along with their accomplices, will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, lauded the efforts of the tactical squad and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to stamping out criminality in the state.
“We remain steadfast in our resolve to rid Enugu State of cultism and all forms of violent crime,” CP Giwa stated. “We urge all citizens to be vigilant, law-abiding, and to partner with the Police by providing timely information.”
This latest recovery underscores the Enugu State Police Command’s strategy of sustained proactive policing in tackling security challenges and enhancing public safety across the state.
