Enugu State has officially launched the Campus Hackathon 2025, a $100,000 initiative designed to ignite a new wave of coders, builders, and problem-solvers across six major tertiary institutions in the state.
Organized by the Enugu SME Center and the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy, in collaboration with Genesys Tech Hub, The Garage, and Capitis Global Ventures, the high-impact competition aims to fuel grassroots innovation and produce globally competitive tech talent.
“The future is being built in the Coal City—one idea at a time,” organisers declared at the launch.
Big Rewards for Big Ideas
With over ₦9 million in campus round prizes and more than $11,000 in grants and incubation support for grand finale winners, the hackathon offers not only recognition but also real opportunities to build careers and launch startups.
Campus Round Prizes (Per Institution):
- 🥇 1st Place: ₦750,000
- 🥈 2nd Place: ₦500,000
- 🥉 3rd Place: ₦250,000
Grand Finale Prizes:
- 🏆 1st Place: $5,000 grant + incubation/investment support
- 🥈 2nd Place: $3,500 grant + incubation/investment support
- 🥉 3rd Place: $2,500 grant + incubation/investment support
In partnership with the African Deep Tech Community, an additional $5,000 innovation pool is set aside for select teams working on frontier technologies.
Who Can Join?
The hackathon is open to:
- Students
- Recent graduates
- Youths based in the State (ages 18–35)
Participants don’t have to be enrolled in school—they can register under any of the six designated campuses:
- University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
- University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC)
- Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT)
- Godfrey Okoye University
- Institute of Management and Technology (IMT)
- Coal City University

“This hackathon is not just a competition. It’s part of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s transformation agenda to empower young people, drive a digitally focused economy, and position the state as a national leader in talent and tech,” organisers noted.
Participants will solve real-world challenges, pitch to investors, and gain valuable mentorship.
