Global wrestling icon and former WWE and WCW superstar Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71. The man who captivated fans across the world, including millions in Nigeria, passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday morning.
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) confirmed his passing in an official statement, saying:
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”
Hogan’s death comes barely a month after his wife, Sky Bollea, publicly dismissed rumours that the wrestling legend was in a coma or battling life‑threatening complications from recent surgeries. At the time, she described those reports as “false and misleading.”
Renowned for his signature moves, unmatched charisma, and his unforgettable catchphrase —
“Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?”
— Hogan became a two‑time WWE Hall of Famer and an enduring face of professional wrestling.
His influence went far beyond the ring. Over the decades, Hogan appeared in movies, reality television shows, and various pop‑culture ventures, cementing his legacy as one of the most celebrated figures in sports entertainment history.
