Senator Austin Akobundu has expressed his readiness to collaborate with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Oboro Ikwuano Study Centre, to improve its learning environment and overall infrastructure.

Speaking during the 2nd Matriculation Ceremony and 1st Anniversary Celebration of the Institute in Ikwuano, Senator Akobundu—represented by Prince Obinna Apugo Okey, a former Commissioner for Inter‑Governmental Affairs—commended the institute’s efforts and promised to seek avenues to support its growth.

“I will explore ways of working with the NTI Oboro Ikwuano Study Centre to help improve the learning environment,” Senator Akobundu said.

The lawmaker, invited as Special Guest of Honour, congratulated the management and students on the milestone. He urged the new students to take their studies seriously and strive to become exemplary mentors in their future roles.

“I congratulate the Institute on its 1st Year Anniversary and the students on their matriculation. Take your courses seriously and be ready to be exemplary mentors to those that will be under your care as students,” he added.

The Centre Manager, Mrs. Elizabeth Onyeka, in her remarks, highlighted both the prospects and challenges facing the Institute and appealed for intervention from well‑meaning stakeholders to address pressing needs.

It is noteworthy that Senator Akobundu has been actively supporting education in his constituency. He previously sponsored 113 constituents to enroll in the NTI as part of his efforts to bridge the shortage of teachers and raise the standard of education in Abia State.

“This sponsorship is part of my commitment to ensuring our children have access to quality teachers and a better educational future,” Senator Akobundu had earlier stated in reference to the initiative.

The event ended on a hopeful note, with stakeholders optimistic that the Senator’s pledge will translate into tangible improvements for the NTI Oboro Ikwuano Study Centre.
