The Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation, Hon. Peter Eze, has pledged strict enforcement of the Federal Character principle, declaring that the committee will carry out its constitutional mandate with “diligence and courage.”
Eze made the commitment on Tuesday during the inaugural meeting of the committee at the FCC Headquarters in Abuja. The committee is among 25 operational committees recently approved during the Commission’s weekly plenary session presided over by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, as part of reforms aimed at repositioning the Commission for greater effectiveness.
Addressing members drawn from the six geopolitical zones, Eze underscored the weight of their responsibility, reminding them that the Federal Character principle is a constitutional safeguard meant to prevent the dominance of public institutions by any particular region or group.
Quoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described the Commission as the “conscience of the nation,” Eze said the committee is fully aware of the expectations placed upon it.
“The laws establishing the Federal Character Commission are clear,” he said. “Our duty is not merely ceremonial. We are here to ensure full implementation and compliance. Every Nigerian, irrespective of tribe, gender, or region, deserves equal opportunity in public service.”
Eze explained that the committee’s primary mandate is to ensure strict compliance with the FCC Act within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under the supervision of the Federal Ministries of Works, Transport, and Aviation.

He noted that proper enforcement of the Commission’s mandate would promote fairness and equity while strengthening national cohesion in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, visible adherence to fairness in federal appointments and recruitments would deepen patriotism and foster a stronger sense of belonging among citizens.
“When fairness and justice are visibly upheld in federal appointments and recruitments, national trust and loyalty naturally grow,” he stated.
Reaffirming the resolve of the Commission’s leadership to revitalize its operations, Eze assured Nigerians that the committee would discharge its responsibilities with transparency and accountability.
He maintained that by enforcing constitutional provisions without fear or favour, the FCC would reinforce its role as a guardian of equity, national balance, and inclusive governance.
