The Enugu State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, arresting two suspects and recovering locally fabricated firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating exhibits during separate operations across the state.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe said the operations were intelligence-driven and formed part of its sustained efforts to rid Enugu State of violent crimes, cultism, and other unlawful activities.
According to the Ndukwe, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, raided a criminal hideout at Ameke Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area on September 6, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m.
“On sighting the operatives, a group of suspected criminals fled the scene, abandoning a bag. A search of the bag led to the recovery of two locally fabricated firearms: one triple-barrelled pistol and one single-barrelled pistol,” the Police said.
Similarly, on September 5, 2025, at about 11:05 p.m., operatives of the Abakpa Police Division arrested one Peter Kalu, a 26-year-old resident of Enugu, during a night patrol for allegedly causing public disturbance.
“A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally fabricated imitation pistol,” the statement added.
In another development, operatives of Umabor Police Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, rescued and arrested one Ugwu Collins, 23, from an angry mob on September 3, 2025, at about 11:00 p.m.
“The suspect, while unlawfully in possession of a firearm, was alleged to have violently threatened a male victim. One locally fabricated double-barrelled pistol loaded with a live cartridge was recovered from him. He further confessed to membership of the Black Axe Confraternity,” the Police said.
Ndukwe assured that discreet investigations into all the cases were ongoing, and the suspects would be charged to court once the investigations were concluded.
CP Giwa Commends Operatives
Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the Police by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
“Citizens must continue to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the Police through the timely provision of credible information,” CP Giwa said.
The Command assured that its operations against criminals would be sustained across all parts of Enugu State.
