Authorities in the United States have arrested a Nigerian national, Rotimi Oladimeji, over his involvement in mail and wire fraud schemes valued at more than $1.1 million.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in New Orleans announced the arrest on Monday in a statement shared on its official X handle.
ICE also released a photo of Oladimeji dressed in a grey shirt and headwarmer, describing him as a “criminal alien” from Nigeria.
According to the agency, Oladimeji had a prior criminal record related to financial crimes and had been ordered to pay more than $1.1 million in restitution before his arrest.
“He was ordered to pay $1.1M+ in restitution before ICE New Orleans arrested him,” ICE said.
The Nigerian now faces prosecution in the U.S. and could be sentenced to prison if found guilty. He also risks deportation after serving his jail term.
