Renowned academic, Professor Eni Kalu, has commended Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for his sustained commitment to youth advancement through education, describing his efforts as a life-changing investment in Nigeria’s future.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Professor Kalu stressed that the Senator’s consistent focus on education stands out as the strongest foundation for lasting development.
According to him, “Investment in education is the best way to secure the future. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has shown consistent dedication to this cause, starting from his time as governor of Abia State to his current position as the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District.”
The professor highlighted that Senator Kalu’s contributions have transformed lives both within and outside Nigeria. “Over the years, he has sponsored more than 20 Abia youths to study in various countries across the world, with programs in Medicine and Surgery, Doctoral studies, MBAs, and more. The senator’s efforts to send these young people abroad for specialised programs have opened new opportunities for them, broadening their horizons and preparing them for global leadership roles. Furthermore, over 600 youths are currently studying in Nigeria with his support, receiving both the resources and encouragement to excel.”
He further described these interventions as true human capital development, contrasting them with superficial engagements. “This is human capital development at its finest. It’s far better than merely organizing hangouts. Education provides the foundation for sustainable growth and development. It is the key to tackling the most pressing challenges of our society, including insecurity, poverty, youth restiveness, and other social vices.”
Reflecting on Kalu’s past achievements as governor of Abia State, Professor Kalu noted his groundbreaking initiatives. “One of the most significant initiatives he introduced was free education at all levels, which allowed countless students to access quality education without financial barriers. This initiative continues to benefit families and students across the state, ensuring that education remains a priority for every citizen.”
He added that the senator has carried this passion into his legislative role. “As a senator, Senator Kalu has not rested on his laurels. His passion for education remains evident through his ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure of schools in the region. The lawmaker has overseen the reconstruction of over 150 schools, improving facilities for both teachers and students. In addition, he has distributed science and mathematics textbooks, uniforms, and school bags to students, further reducing the financial burden on families and ensuring that students are equipped for success.”
Professor Kalu praised the senator’s consistency over the years. “Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has always put education first, recognizing it as the foundation for all other forms of development. His contributions, both in the past and present, are a testament to his unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives.”
