Tension gripped the Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State on Friday when some youths allegedly assaulted the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and his son, Prince Victor Bakare.

The incident reportedly occurred at the Ishara quarters of the town during the New Yam Festival when Prince Victor, who was visiting his parents, was allegedly beaten by the youths.

Speaking with journalists at the palace, Prince Victor, who bore visible marks of assault, alleged that the attackers humiliated his family.

He said the youths not only assaulted him but also stripped his mother half-naked and molested the monarch.

According to him, “The youths poured urine and other dirty substances on me for reasons best known to them.”

Reacting, Oba Bakare decried what he described as recurring hostility from some selected youths in the town, noting that the latest incident was unfortunate.

The monarch, however, commended the timely intervention of the police, which prevented the fracas from degenerating into a bigger crisis.

Also confirming the unrest, the Amotekun Corps Coordinator in the community, Mr. Omatayo Johnson, said security operatives quickly stepped in to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

Confirming the development, the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Olusola Ayanlade, said, “The case is under investigation, and we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served.”
