The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has summoned members of the Council of State and the Police Council to an urgent strategic meeting aimed at addressing critical issues of national security and governance.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop Umobong, the high-level meeting is scheduled to hold on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Council Chambers, Aso Villa, Abuja.

The statement outlined the meeting schedule as follows:

  • Meeting with the Council of State: 1:00 p.m.
  • Meeting with the Police Council: 2:00 p.m.

Members of both councils are expected to attend either physically or virtually, in line with the hybrid format adopted for the session.

Dr. Umobong explained that the discussions would center on “matters of national importance and key issues affecting national security and policing,” adding that the gathering reflects the government’s proactive stance in addressing the country’s pressing challenges.

The SGF’s invitation, signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening intergovernmental coordination and ensuring the safety of Nigerians.

“The strategic meeting demonstrates the administration’s resolve to confront emerging security threats and maintain national stability,” the statement added.

The convening of the two top advisory bodies comes amid heightened public interest in the government’s security response and efforts to enhance coordination among key institutions of state.
