The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the dissolution of all its local government and ward executive committees within Enugu State, as part of a strategic initiative to re-establish its presence.

Dr. Ben Nwoye, who chairs the APC’s caretaker committee in the state, conveyed this decision during a stakeholders’ meeting for the Enugu West Senatorial District, held at the Golden Royal Hotel in Enugu.

He clarified that this measure aligns with directives from the National Working Committee to undertake a comprehensive reorganisation of the party in the state. “This action is in line with the directive of the National Working Committee to go and reorganise the party in the state. We must embrace unity and make it our watchword. Nobody is bigger than the party, we are all equal whether you joined today or yesterday, we are all equal,” Nwoye stated.

Dr. Nwoye further revealed that this decision, which he affirmed was consistent with their mandate, was also in the best interests of the party.

He explained that investigations had indicated numerous individuals were asserting claims to chairmanship positions at both ward and local government tiers.

Mr. Nwoye additionally stated that the APC has embraced digital operations, announcing an upcoming e-registration drive. This initiative is scheduled to be launched by the party’s National Chairman in Owerri, Imo State, on Monday, and he urged all party members to participate.

Fidelia Njeze, a member of the caretaker committee and former Minister of Aviation, also spoke at the event, emphasising the critical need for unity. She noted that their primary instruction was to foster cohesion within the Enugu State chapter of the party.

She stated that the members were now unified and urged the organisers to expand the scope of the subsequent meeting, as many individuals remained committed to the party.

Ms Njeze encouraged attendees to be welcoming to all, thereby strengthening the party’s foundation.

In a communique presented by Barrister Godwin Onwusi, the stakeholders formally expressed their allegiance to President Bola Tinubu and pledged their commitment to his re-election campaign in 2027.

They also conveyed their support for the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to join the APC. Furthermore, they commended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC for dissolving the party’s leadership in Enugu State and for appointing Dr. Nwoye as interim chairman and Eugene Odoh as interim secretary.
