Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Joy Uche Angela Ogwu, describing her as “a truly eminent Nigerian, an outstanding African diplomat, and a global voice for peace and progress.”

In a heartfelt condolence message, Kalu said the news of her death was a painful loss not only to her family and the diplomatic community but also to Nigeria, Africa, and the world.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and the entire diplomatic community on the sad passing of Professor Joy Uche Angela Ogwu—a truly eminent Nigerian, an outstanding African diplomat and a global voice for peace and progress,” Kalu stated.

He noted that her departure “leaves a void that will be keenly felt, not only within our nation but across the continent and beyond.”

The Senator praised Ogwu’s distinguished career, recalling her stellar service as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and one of Africa’s most respected diplomats.

“Professor Ogwu’s life was marked by stellar service, intellectual brilliance and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s role in the world. As Minister of Foreign Affairs and as one of Africa’s most respected diplomats, she brought dignity, strategic vision and moral clarity to our international engagements,” he added.

Kalu prayed for the repose of her soul and strength for those she left behind.

“May Almighty God rest her soul in perfect peace, and may He grant all her loved ones the fortitude to endure this irreparable loss,” he said.

On behalf of the people of Abia North Senatorial Zone, his family, and himself, Kalu expressed solidarity with the bereaved.

“Nigeria mourns a daughter, Africa mourns a champion, the world mourns a statesperson. Her legacy will forever shine,” he concluded.
