Rhino Homes, the official developer and concessionaire of the Ekeoha-Aba Shopping Centre, has dispelled rumours of a structural collapse at the construction site, clarifying that the incident reported on Tuesday was merely a minor props failure during work on Block D of the complex.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company explained that the temporary props failure resulted from a sub-contractor’s reuse of bamboo props during the concrete casting process. It stressed that no structural collapse occurred and that the overall integrity of all ongoing structures within the shopping centre remains intact.

“We wish to categorically clarify that, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters, there was no structural collapse at the site. The incident was limited to a temporary props failure caused by the sub-contractor’s reuse of bamboo props,” the statement read.

While expressing regret over the unfortunate event, Rhino Homes reassured the public, stakeholders, and shop owners that the safety and stability of the project were not compromised in any way.

“The integrity of all ongoing structures within the complex remains sound and uncompromised,” the company affirmed.

Reiterating its long-standing commitment to quality, safety, and best construction practices, Rhino Homes emphasized that it uses only premium-grade materials, including TMT iron rods, Lafarge Superset cement, and other internationally certified components.

“Our projects are supervised under rigorous engineering standards to ensure every structure meets globally recognised benchmarks for durability and safety,” the developer stated.

In a further show of transparency and accountability, Rhino Homes invited relevant regulatory and professional bodies to inspect and verify the quality of materials and workmanship at the construction site.

The company also confirmed that corrective measures have already been implemented to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

“We have addressed the issue and strengthened our oversight to ensure strict compliance with our safety protocols going forward,” the company assured.

Rhino Homes reaffirmed its dedication to the timely delivery of the Ekeoha-Aba Shopping Centre — a landmark commercial complex envisioned to serve traders, investors, and the wider Aba community.

“This project stands as a testament to engineering excellence, urban renewal, and our commitment to redefining modern commercial infrastructure in the Southeast,” the statement concluded.
