Nigeria was thrown into mourning following the tragic death of the son and grandson of the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro. The heartbreaking news came as a devastating double loss for the lawmaker’s family, who lost both his son, Victor Moro, and grandson, Abba Moro Jr., within 24 hours of each other.

President Bola Tinubu led the nation in mourning, sending heartfelt condolences to Senator Moro, his family, and the people of Benue State.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the deaths as painful and deeply saddening.

“President Bola Tinubu commiserates with the family, friends, and associates of Senator Abba Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, over the tragic loss of his son and grandson,” the statement read.

The President urged the grieving family to take solace in the impactful, though brief, lives of the departed, noting that their memories would remain a blessing to all who knew them.

“The President prays that God Almighty will receive the souls of the departed children and comfort the family during this time of grief,” the statement added.

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, also expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, describing it as “painful and devastating.”

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia said:

“Anyone who believes in humanity will be touched by the double tragedy. The deaths of a son and grandson within 24 hours are truly heartbreaking.”

He urged Senator Moro, his family, and the entire Benue South community to accept the painful reality as the will of God, “who gives and takes away life,” while praying for divine strength and consolation.

Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, also joined in mourning, describing the incident as a “double tragedy that words can hardly express.”

In a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Terver Akase, Ortom said:

“The death of Victor Moro, a young man full of promise, who had just completed his studies in Turkey and returned home to serve his country under the National Youth Service Corps, only for his life to be cut short in a fatal motor accident, is especially devastating.”

Victor Moro, described by family and friends as brilliant and humble, had only recently completed his studies in Turkey before returning to Nigeria to begin his NYSC programme. His sudden death, followed by that of his young son, has plunged the Moro family and the entire Benue community into deep sorrow.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the nation, many describe the tragedy as a stark reminder of life’s fragility — a painful chapter in the story of a man who has dedicated his life to public service.

The prayers of millions now rest with Senator Abba Moro and his family, as they navigate one of the darkest moments of their lives.
